The Scoop – The SoundMarket is focused on exploring new, old, offbeat, and oft-forgotten songs that have set them apart from the ordinary. We are a resource for those on the lookout for songs that lie outside the scope of the standard search algorithm.
The music reflects the leanings of the Stellar Nushnick Advisory Panel (SNAP!!). No algorithms! The aim here is to draw in folks with similar tastes while also pulling in open-minded musical converts with differing tastes looking to broaden their horizons. Additionally, we believe many of these selections would prove to be optimal starting points to delve into any of these given artists. For example, Dan Bern’s Black Tornado, or Marcia Ball’s Louisiana 1927, provide a fine representation of their overall catalogue, thus providing a nice launch into their music.
Our sources vary but we will listen to everything that comes our way. In that light please feel free to send us songs you yourself consider worthy of a wider audience. The songs you recommend need not be obscure, but entertaining in one way or another.
What are YOU listening to now that has captured your ears? Let us know:
The SoundMarket also serves as a musical advisory for creative projects, advertising, television, film, seeking either particular song ideas or full music project oversight. Our team is a subversive throng of nerdy nushnicks, knee-deep in buried or bygone tunes left off many a playlist. Our selection process is not based on algorithms; we filter for music that sounds good based on our particular tastes. Each chosen song has distinctive qualities that set it apart and warrant further exploration.
The SoundMarket song filter aims to illuminate music just slightly off the beaten path, whether it be tunes little known, perhaps long forgotten, or just worth a second consideration. Indeed, not every song we feature is obscure; what may be familiar to some may be old hat to others. We dig for diamonds, sifting through the ever-expanding musical universe, hoping to expand individual musical horizons across all fronts.
The plan is to categorize the tracks fully and offer more than the sampling here but our current work-in-progress approach is to use the streaming services for samples, and present the songs scatter-shot to offer a diverse listening experience.
Given the subjective nature of our list, we encourage everyone to suggest songs they believe deserve recognition. We welcome you to reach out to us and share your musical gems, as we aim for SoundMarket to be a go-to platform for exciting music discoveries.
